Yes, Flora is my real name.
I was named after an important women in my life. Flora Mary Brown was my Scottish grandmother, who loved gardening and grew old-fashioned perennials. She arrived alone in Canada at the age of 18 and never returned to Scotland or saw her family again.
Some of her iris and peonies still grow in my garden here in Bear River.
.
My grandmother’s love of flowers was passed on to my dear mother.
I think they both had a hand in my love of flowers and nature.
I like to paint from life and I adore the beauty of nature. That was a big part of my decision to move to rural Nova Scotia from downtown Toronto in 2007.
I have been painting for decades and am thrilled to have co-founded this gallery of artists in 2015. Enjoy your visit to Bear River Artworks Gallery.
